Party Supplies - Getting Started

Party supplies can be a jungle to wade through. How do you know what you need to do, what you need to get, and how do you choose from the myriads of products out there. The answer to that is really up to you. Depending on what your budget allows and how long you have to plan, and what type of occasion it is, party supplies can really help out. Here are a few pointers:

Invitations-obviously the first thing you need is to invite your guest list. Invitations are a great way to get the ball rolling, because you know once they are sent out then you are obligated to follow through with your get-together, giving you that incentive to keep going.

Background-start from the bottom and go up. Background would include things like setting the stage, setting the mood, and setting the pace. Party supplies in this area are a necessary thing. You will need music, decorations and some sort of lighting ideas. What kind of party do you want to create? Coming up with a theme for your party will be the first step on the list. Themes are not necessary, but they do help when it comes to deciding on what to get by way of supplies. Whether it be fun and light-hearted, holiday related, or dark and mysterious (aka-Twilight) setting the mood can be great fun. Don't forget to use your walls and ceilings for decorations. They can add a great deal when you plaster all kinds of stuff on them.

Food-coming up with the food can be a daunting task. Depending on your budget, go ahead and do what you can, based around the theme you have chosen. It's really only limited to your imagination. Don't forget to pick up all the supplies you will need for the food. Tablecloths, napkins, cups, plates, straws, utensils, bowls, etc.

Extras-little touches like a life-size stand-up in the corner, or beads hanging in the doorway, or jungle vines draped everywhere will go far in molding your party, and make the difference between a good party and a great party. Remember to pick up some party favors. Everyone likes a 'thank-you' once in a while.

Games-whether it be all-encompassing games that everybody plays, or just some little quiet thing that goes on during the party, games are a must. The more you can engage people, the better your gathering will be. Of course you don't want to force people to play, and some individuals are really shy, but the more you have to offer and the more fun the games are to play, the more people you will get involved. Thus, making your gathering really memorable and enjoyable versus something that friends are eager to leave.
Fortunately, party supplies are in abundance everywhere. Walk into the store, browse the aisles, and sometimes that will stimulate an idea of what to do. You really cannot get along without some of these things. Open your mind, imagine what it could be like, and get started!

Flightless Bird, American Mouth

Learned it. Played it. Enjoy. Iron & wine is phenomenal. At 1:17 my dad stuffs his head through my door beads and then proceeds to tell me that I'm weird. (From his perspective I'm sitting in front of my dresser playing guitar...wearing a top hat.) Then at 1:23 he tells me "I wanna move that sewing machine before you go today." Just to clear up any confusion on what's going on in the foreground.

Giving Children the Mathematical Advantage

Learning to Love Math

Math can be a difficult subject both to learn and to teach. Learning math is similar to trying to chase a chicken. Though it does not seem to be useful to the general pubic, it is very useful in an indirect way. It is important to develop the knowledge and appreciation of math at an early age. It is when a student discovers a problem that they want to answer that math becomes exciting. Simple interactions of puzzles, games and patterns all help to make math fun.

Mathematical Environments

Setting the right atmosphere to learn math is imperative. At a small age, we give children blocks to play with. Children will sit for hours playing with these blocks and marveling at what they can make with them. Playing with blocks increases spatial ability and will impact mathematical success in the future. Any sort of building blocks, cubes, dice, beads, etc. will assist in spatial awareness. Rubik cubes, puzzles and tangrams teach how fitting objects together relates to patterns and numbers within the world around us. Being able to decipher the language of math and relate it to themselves is an important building block. It is this creative mind that brings math into focus and leaves children wanting more.

More Puzzles

Puzzle questions create the reasoning children need to solve a problem. A great puzzle which is in the movie Die Hard with a Vengeance is shown with liters.

Given a 5-liter jar, a 3--liter jar and an unlimited supply of water, how do you measure 4 liters exactly?

These type of puzzles are both mathematical and logical and can be completed as a hand-on activity. These teach both thinking and reasoning as well as how to make sense of the situation. This type of informal and critical thinking, is transferred over to real life and more benefits are later discover. Problem solving skills will help us improved both with everyday life situations and even extracurricular actives. Think about how many sports are play where math is used. Even other types of games such as pool and poker take a mathematical advantage against ones opponent.

Just ASK!

Asking is the best way to learn. When a child ask a question, it is OK to deviate from the problem and explore patterns and relationships. You can generalize and problem solve outside of the original questions. This is a great way to learn and apply math. Math is easy to forget. Do you remember the formula for circumference? What about the quadratic formulas? It is important to create flexibility in math. Children decompose and recompose numbers differently. Though math solutions are consistent, getting the answers are not.

Take the following example: 15 x 5

One student may need a pen and paper to compute the answer.
Another child may calculate within their head, 10 x 5,=50 and 5 x 5=25 therefore; 50+25=75
Additionally, another child may use fingers and count by 5's all the way to 15.

The point here is that each student will still get the same answer. Do not restrict children on learning math only one way. You must present the advantage and allow them multiple ways to get the answers as this will sharpen their mental math skills.

Take a Foreign Lesson

The opportunity to learn math is global. It is assumed that other countries outside of the United States fair higher in math. The reality is that other countries impose math heavily and consistently with higher standards in relation to the United States. You do not have to wait until kindergarten to teach your child numbers and addition. You also do not need to wait until high school to learn algebra and calculus. Children are capable of learning deeper math concepts than usually assumed. Everything in math is both concrete and abstract. It does not take a month to learn math, it takes years. One must practice and continue to educate and develop their reasoning and awareness to properly solve equations. Early exposure allows the mind to process the skills needed to both proceed and succeed.Their are no limits in math.

Math builds on a set of knowledge, each concept relating to skills the children already have. If a child always has the means to learn math, they merely need the education to obtain it. Everyday children are thriving to learn. Math is present in everyday activities including cooking, playing, running errands, driving, listening to music and more. Incorporating math concepts is easy, but remember to keep the conversations light hearted and matter of fact. The more you chose to introduce math, the more your child benefits. Give your child the mathematical advantage and create the fundamental skills needed for future success.

† Lulaby for a bitter night †

Story - Lulaby for a stormy night The girl, quiet and insecure, walked briskly away from her past. No one could change her mind, or change her future. It was set. She knew what she wanted to do, whether he would approve or not, she didnt care. She would be happybut the past must catch up eventually. From what she could call the comfort of her room, she looked gloomily out of the grog-covered windows. In the distance, where the mist of the evening met the cloudy skies, someone was there. She couldnt make them out, but she had a very bad feeling. The man dressed in black, slinked over to the garden. Every so often he would change direction suddenly before carrying on his journey. She watched him closely. Sweat poured down his face in beads, his swamp green eyes, rolling every so often when he staggered. He was walking forward but at times would begin to lean to one side. His white hairy hand clamped onto the door handle, and as it open and the door squealed, she quickly hid under the bed. His heavy boots, his swearing mouthshe couldnt stop him when he was this drunk and in a rage. Quickly, for she knew it would take him time to reach the top of the stairs, she grabbed her blanket (it was her mothers) and grasped it tightly over her slender body as she returned under the bed. He threw the door open with such force that it almost came off it hinges. He was swearing loudly as he clattered around the roomsearching. He called out her name, over and over but she never replied ...

You Found Me- Chapter 11(Season One)

*Joe's POV* Alright. Almost time...just an hour. For some reason...all three of us seemed tense. I thought I saw beads of sweat dripping of my nose. But, why? It's just a party. Not like I have anything to worry about. We just sat, staring at the clock, watching the minutes go by. Mrs. Jonas: Boys? You in there? Nick: Yeah! Over here, Mom! Then my mom walked in. Mrs. Jonas: No TV? No video games? No music? Should I be frightened? *laughs* "Oh, no...we're fine, Mom. Just waiting to leave for the party." Kevin: Yep. Totally fine. Mrs. Jonas:...It's not for another hour, dears... Kevin: Ever hear of something called impatience? Mrs. Jonas: Okay, okay. Well, you boys have fun. I'll be right down the road at the Civic Center with Frankie and your father if you need anything. None of us removed our eyes from the second hand. "Got it." Nick: Cool. Kevin: Whatever you say. Mrs. Jonas: Okay...see you later... We all replied, "Bye." And I heard the door shut. I just don't get it, what's up with us? Is it because we're new? Is that why we're nervous? "Guys....?" Nick: Huh? "Are you...for some reason...nervous about this party?" Kevin: A little...I guess it's just 'cause we're new...why? Are you nervous? "Not really...maybe a bit..." Or more than I should be... Nick: Yeah...It'll be fine though. Kevin: Yep, everything completely totally, fine.... And we all sighed as another minute ticked by. *end POV* 55 minutes go by. *Regina's POV* We just finished putting out the popcorn ...

Ch. 2- Jb Is It Love?

"We were just, er-" Nick stuttered, slowly bringing his eyes up to her, raising his eyebrows. "We just thought this was our room, sorry." Joe covered, brushing his hair out of the way, giving her "the look" [lol] , stepping in front of nick, winking at her. "So i'm Joe, and you must be?" Kevin: "*cough*Manwhore*cough*" Nick tried not to laugh. "Aralyn-" she said, grinning a bit. "I know who you are," she nodded shyly, her eyes moving right to Nick's. Nick averted his eyes immediately, feeling himself blush "Pretty name," he said quietly - noticing at the corner of his eye he could see Kevin looking at him weirdly. soon enough, Nick caught a glimpse of their CD on the counter inside her room. "So I see, you like our music?" Nick piped up, peering over Joe's shoulder. Aralyn: "Er-yeah-I" she got interrupted by their song "Games," which had gotten turned on pretty loud. "Kendra, shut that off, will you?" "Whoo are you talking to?" was a voice in the distance, shutting off the music almost immediately, then making her way up to the door-rubbing her eyes. "Just tell them to leave, Aralyn," Kendra said, unaware who was at the door. "Hey there," Joe nodded, raising an eyebrow at her. Kendra just stared for a moment, taking it all in. she then moved her eyes to Kevin, then Nick. "Holy shit," she murmured under her breath, Nick laughing silently. "Anyways, yeah- we really love you guys." she nodded, blinking. "Like, your music, and..yeah." Aralyn zoned out for a moment, her eyes ...

"B-but, I thought we had something special," I stuttered. We've just got back from a movie night with Joe and his brothers but now it was just me and Joe back in his car, he was about to drop me off at Selena's house for the night. "I-I'm sorry, Demi. We did have something before, but I dont feel the same anymore. I hope you understand," he tells me, looking out the window and avoiding my eyes. "Are you breaking up with me?" I gasped, looking at him. He nodded just slightly. "But I'm hoping we could still be friends," he offers. "I wanna be your best friend again. I missed that." "Why are you doing this?" I asked, looking out the window at the rain falling down in the dark night. "I just dont feel the same anymore," he simply says. I nodded slowly. "You've found someone else," I whispered. "What? No. No way," he tells me. But I know Joe so well. He's lying. "Who is she?" I asked as tears fell from my tired eyes. "There's no one. I promise." "You also promised that we'd be together forever. What happened to that?" He doesnt say anything, he just looks straight ahead, and put his car key into the ignition. Backing out of the driveway, I shut my ...
